《一乐也》于1973年公映，是李翰祥和许冠文凭着《大军阀》的成功再斩四两之作。影片最大特色，要数许冠文一人分身四角。

此片以二十世纪初的战乱时期为背景，由几个短篇喜剧组合而成，包括富翁嫖妓、警长贪污、老妇治病和剪发学徒守夜的故事。每个段落由相关的人物连接。特别之处是几个故事都由同一班核心演员主演，计有许冠文、胡 、恬妮和谷峰等。和《大军阀》一样，李翰祥借故讽今，透过片中民初时期滑稽的人和事，反映当世时局的荒谬和可笑。可惜电影的剧本明显不及《大》精彩，讽刺亦未见一针见血，而是以胡闹和情色为主。论喜剧效果，亦未见突出，欠缺真正幽默好笑的场面。编导往往只能依赖演员的精彩演出，才能博得观众一笑。

许冠文在此片再次展示喜剧潜质，演绎四个无论性格和外型都大不相同的角色都游纫有如，为往后的成就铺路。他今次演的四个角色中，以老妇和剪发学徒比较难忘。这可能由于老富翁和警长两个角色都和《大军阀》的庞大虎类似，新意始终不强，不及老妇和剪发学徒好玩过瘾。其余恬妮、胡锦、谷峰和王琛等扮鬼扮马，演得甚为落力。不过由于电影的整体水准有限，格局和笑料的质数亦只有普普通通的水平，不少场次更嫌拖拉冗长，纵使许冠文和一众演员施尽混身解数，亦难回天。

李翰祥是华语电影界产量较多的熟手巧匠，作品类型广泛，除了《江山美人》和《垂帘听政》等文艺钜着，亦有通俗市井如《金瓶双艳》和《三十年细说从头》等，电影水准一向比较参疵。《一乐也》虽不能算是完全失手之作，但明显不是令人满意的作品。事实上，他和许冠文合作的几部电影之中，始终以第一部《大军阀》的成绩最突出。其后的如《一乐也》、《声色犬马》等《大》热潮下的趋生作品，都难再有突破。难怪当年许冠文拍罢《声》片即脱离邵氏，拍摄《鬼马双星》大放异彩，继而成为香港七八十年代最杰出的喜剧巨星。
